At approximately 2:13 a.m. on August 8, 2024, the League City Police Department was contacted by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office regarding a request for assistance by an officer with the Clear Lake Shores Police Department. GCSO advised the CLSPD officer asked for back-up near the intersection of Glen Cove Blvd and E Winn St. As LCPD officers were enroute, GCSO informed shots were fired in the location, and the CLSPD officer was shot in the left arm. The suspect vehicle, a red Honda SUV, was reported fleeing South on Glen Cove Blvd towards Marina Bay Dr. The CLSPD officer was later taken by the League City Fire Department’s EMS Division to a local hospital for medical treatment.

LCPD Ofc Camacho located the suspect vehicle near the intersection of Marina Bay Dr and South Shore Blvd at approximately 2:19 a.m. Ofc Camacho attempted to stop the Honda, but the driver, later identified as Codey Colvin, continued driving Westbound towards IH 45. LCPD officers initiated a pursuit which continued Northbound onto IH 45 into Houston.

The Houston Police Department’s Helicopter Unit and several HPD officers assisted in the pursuit which continued onto Allen Pkwy and Westheimer Rd. The Honda lost a tire after going over a curb and came to a stop in the 4000 block of Watonga Blvd in Houston at approximately 2:49 a.m. Covin then led officers on a short foot chase, but he was quickly placed in custody at 2:50 a.m. without further incident.

Covin has been charged with Evading Arrest/Detention with a Motor Vehicle. Further charges are pending GCSO’s investigation. Any requests for further information regarding the shooting or officer’s status should be directed to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.
