Traffic Stop Leads to Theft Investigation
On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at approximately 11:30 AM, an officer noticed a delivery truck stopped on the shoulder in the 600 block of W. Edgewood Drive with a black Honda Accord parked behind it. Both drivers were out of their vehicle having a conversation on the side of the roadway. The officer stopped to speak with the two drivers, and the driver of the Accord, identified as Leonard Herrera, 30, of Houston, told officers that he had stopped to ask the delivery driver if he could wrap a package for him. The officer then asked the delivery driver what their conversation was about and the delivery driver told the officer that Herrera had asked to take a package off the truck set to be delivered to a nearby address but could not produce any identification to show proof of residency. Herrera was arrested and transported to the Friendswood jail for Operating a Vehicle Without a valid driver’s license, failure to display the front license plate at the exterior front of the vehicle, and no sunscreening device label.
Officers inventoried the vehicle and found items with receipts that did not match Herrera’s name. They contacted the individual listed on the receipts, who confirmed their card had been fraudulently used to make the purchase. Officers also contacted the intended recipient of the package from the delivery truck that was set to be delivered. That individual likewise reported fraudulent use of their card. These discoveries prompted a further investigation by Friendswood detectives, resulting in two Galveston County Theft warrants. On Friday, September 12, 2025, Herrera was arrested by the Friendswood Police Department on both charges.
