On September 5, 2025, the LCPD’s Business District Unit made a significant impact in combating organized retail theft.
BDU Officer Martin was contacted directly by Kohl’s Loss Prevention regarding a theft in progress at the League City Kohl’s. Officer Martin quickly located the suspect vehicle leaving the parking lot and initiated a traffic stop. With assistance from BDU Officer Stillman and K9 Officer McIntyre, all occupants of the vehicle were safely detained.
Inside the vehicle, officers recovered stolen merchandise from the League City Kohl’s along with additional items believed to have been taken from other stores. After further investigation, officers determined the same suspects had also stolen from another Kohl’s location in Houston, a Victoria’s Secret store, and an additional store still being identified.
The suspects, identified as Allen, Rideaux, and Smith (who has 18 prior theft convictions), were arrested and charged with Organized Retail Theft – State Jail Felony. Each suspect’s bond was set at $60,000.
This case highlights the importance of the Business District Unit, which works closely with local retailers to protect businesses, prevent theft, and hold repeat offenders accountable.
