Aubrey Harbin became the Director of Community Development in May 2018. She began her career at the City of Pearland in the Community Development Department in August 2001 and for almost six years progressed in the building permits division ultimately serving as the Office Coordinator. In June 2007, she embarked on a new path joining the City of Friendswood as the Development Coordinator in the Planning Division. From there, she gained more experience in the development process as Development Specialist, Planner, Deputy Director, and now Director.
She now leads the team of employees who oversee the planning, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), building permits, inspections, and code enforcement divisions of the City. She is the staff liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission and assists in promoting economic development initiatives for the City. Aubrey is passionate about empowering property owners and business owners with the knowledge to understand zoning and building regulations in order to save them time and money as they navigate the development process.
She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She is certified as a Permit Technician by the International Code Council, a LEED Accredited Professional by the Green Building Certification Institute, and a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) by the Texas Floodplain Management Association.
Aubrey and her husband, Jeremy, have been married for 31 years and have a growing family with two adult boys, a daughter-in-law, and a grandson. They are avid sailors and enjoy spending time on Galveston Bay and traveling.
