On September 9, 2025, officers from the BDU responded to the H-E-B located at 2955 S Gulf Freeway after receiving a call regarding a robbery in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 70-year-old male and his 67-year-old wife, who reported that their purse had been stolen. During the struggle, the husband sustained minor injuries after being dragged and knocked to the ground as the suspects fled the scene in a gray Honda CR-V.
According to witnesses and security camera footage, a female suspect seated in the passenger side of the SUV grabbed the victim’s purse, while a male suspect drove the vehicle away. Shortly after the incident, the victims discovered several unauthorized charges on their credit cards made at locations in Houston.
The BDU immediately launched an investigation, and through diligent work and with the assistance of the Missouri City Police Department, successfully identified the suspects as 48-year-old Christie Hughes and 47-year-old John Lemon, Jr., both of Houston.
On September 19, 2025, LCPD’s BDU officers, SIU detectives, and HPD’s CST coordinated efforts to locate and apprehend the suspects. Officers conducted a traffic stop on US 90 in Houston, where Hughes was taken into custody. Simultaneously, Lemon was arrested at a residence in the 12,000 block of Ormandy Street. Both suspects have been charged with Aggravated Robbery ($250,000 Bond on each) and Credit/Debit Card Abuse of Elderly ($60,000 Bond on each).
The League City Police Department commends the BDU for their dedication and persistence in bringing the suspects to justice and expresses gratitude to SIU and HPD’s CST for their valuable assistance in the case.
